The M1500 Cordless Headset – With Bluetooth Technology
Plantronics Inc., the world leader in communications headsets, today announced pricing and availability information for the M1500 Cordless Headset Solution, with Bluetooth wireless technology.
The Plantronics M1500 Cordless Headset Solution is the first complete hands-free Bluetooth solution for the installed base of cellular phones. The M1500 was developed in response to cellular users who want the freedom of a cordless headset for their existing cellular phone, said Joyce Shimizu, president of Plantronics' Mobile Communications Division.
Research conducted by Strategy Analytics last year in the U.S. and Europe indicates that more than 65% of cellular users are interested in a headset that does not require a cord between the phone and the headset. Cut the cord, and the result is the ultimate in hands-free personal communications.
While the M1500 Cordless Headset Solution was designed with the mobile professional in mind, Shimizu added, we believe that Bluetooth will become pervasive. As prices decline, we will also offer Bluetooth products for the consumer market.
Cordless, hands-free convenience is clearly what people want, and Plantronics is making the strategic investment to deliver a full range of cordless solutions for mobile and office applications, said Ken Kannappan, Plantronics president and CEO. People want to keep in touch without wires and without dial pads.
The M1500 solution includes a cordless Bluetooth headset and an innovative Bluetooth adapter that plugs directly into the headset jack of most cellular phones. The M1500 headset is fully compliant with version 1.1 of the Bluetooth specification, and supports the Bluetooth Headset Profile. The M1500 headset alone has also been designed to communicate with Bluetooth-embedded cell phones and other devices such as PDAs and laptops that are compliant with the Bluetooth Headset Profile.
The range of the Bluetooth link is particularly helpful if you're in the car and you've left your phone in your briefcase or purse, said Jack Reynolds, M1500 product manager. As long as the phone is on, the call will ring through to the headset. Just push the button, and you've got the call. If your cell phone supports voice dialing via a headset, it keeps getting better-to dial out, you don't have to touch your phone at all.
The M1500 has a boom-style noise-canceling microphone that minimizes background noise, delivering the clear, crisp conversation that voice services require, Reynolds added.
